Apple will produce iPads in Vietnam for the first time as part of its aim to diversify its supply chain and lessen its reliance on China, its primary supplier.

After months of supply chain difficulties caused by rigorous Covid-19 lockdowns in and around Shanghai, the business is shifting some iPad production to Vietnam, according to Nikkei Asia.

BYD, one of the world's major iPad assemblers, has aided Apple in the development of production lines in Vietnam, and the country could soon begin producing a modest number of the iconic tablets, according to the report.

After the AirPods earbud series, the iPad will be the second significant line of Apple goods built in Vietnam.

According to the source, "the decision reflects not only Apple's ongoing efforts to diversify its supply chain, but also the growing importance of Vietnam to the firm."

Apple exported 58 million iPads worldwide last year, the majority of which were built in China.

Apple's wireless earbud AirPods Pro 2 could be manufactured in Vietnam starting in the second half of this year, according to sources last month.

"The more uncomplicated supply chain and Vietnam's better production environment (such as infrastructure and workforce) compared to most nations outside China can be linked to the move in AirPods Pro 2 production," supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said.

The economy of Vietnam in 2022 will grow more significantly than in the previous year, thanks to preferential policies for economic recovery, new-generation FTAs, and robust FDI inflow, among others. Since the beginning of 2022, the Government has set two goals: protecting people’s health while preparing a state budget for 2022 and the next three years. These targets aim to strengthen the stability of Vietnam’s society and economy.
